YMCA North Carolina Youth & Government (NCYAG) prepares teens for moral and political leadership through training in the theory and practice of developing public policy.
Teens can join Youth & Government through a Youth and Government club at their high school throughout the state of North Carolina.
Teens write bills, then debate them in a model legislature complete with delegates, judges and members of the press at the statewide conference held in February in downtown Raleigh, N.C.
The possibilities for leadership and self-discovery are endless.
YMCA NC Youth and Government is for high school teens in grades 9 - 12.
The YMCA of the Triangle hosts Youth and Government clubs at area YMCAs. High Schools across the state also host clubs. Clubs typically meet weekly. Please contact us to find a club in your area.
Youth Legislature Conference
The Youth Legislature Conference is held in February in downtown Raleigh. Participants use the Legislative Building, area hotels and the Raleigh Convention Center. Each conference brings together diverse students from across the state to experience the governmental process first-hand through a youth-run, youth-led model. During the four-day, three-night conference (Thursday-Sunday), the bills developed by delegations are debated in committees, then on the floor of the House and/or Senate and, if passed, sent on to the Youth Governor.
