Youth and Government: Fun dining options

by Owen Alford

As judicial and legislative members of YAG make their way out of the Raleigh Convention Center during their designated lunch times, they are sure to be hungry. Delegates are provided with lunch on Friday but have more freedom on Saturday as they can choose their own feast. While there are many basic fast food joints such as Subway or Jimmy Johns's around the site, participants may want to broaden their palate with more diverse or local flavors.

A wide range of restaurants around the Raleigh Convention Center offers various special features for YAG participants as long as they are sporting their lanyards. Among these special dining areas, there is Jimmy V’s Osteria and Bar, the Sheraton’s very own restaurant. Here delegates can expect to find creative Italian food at a reasonable price. Another restaurant offering a special for YAG members is Gigi’s Pizza, an authentic Italian pizzeria located right across the street from the convention center. Two final restaurants with food at special prices include b.good and Happy + Hale, two healthy eateries located on Fayetteville Street for delegates looking for salads, bowls, and other wholesome options such as smoothies.

While these restaurants don’t offer specials to YAG members, delegates will not want to miss the following fantastic options. Clyde Cooper’s Barbeque is a classic flavor of North Carolina as they’re known for their pulled pork and barbeque chicken. The fried chicken dinners are renowned with there being many five-star reviews for the eatery based on this dish alone. Another flavor our area is known for is perfected at Beasley’s Chicken and Honey. Famous for its honey chicken and waffles, this joint is sure to leave delegates satisfied. If YAG members are interested in going fancy for their meal, Sono Sushi is an incredible place to eat Japanese fare within a vibrant setting and locale. The ramen dishes are recommended.

Delegates with a sweet tooth are in luck as many patisseries and ice cream shops are nearby. lucettegrace is a French bakery selling many pastries and desserts. The iced coffee and croissants are often praised for their taste and quality. Amorino, a shop for Italian treats, is known for its impeccable gelato and macarons. Delicious crepes and personalized cakes can also be found within this establishment of a welcoming and cozy ambiance.

As delegates are hard at work, these eateries are fantastic ways for these members to treat themselves to amazing meals, scrumptious desserts, or fulfilling snacks. Make sure to enjoy these restaurants, and most importantly have fun in your designated roles and areas at the conference.
