Swimming

Learn to swim in a friendly, caring environment at the YMCA of the Triangle, where we have been teaching our community how to swim for more than 150 years. At the Y, our swim programs teach safety, skill and how to enjoy water activities for a lifetime.

Parents and Youth

The Y offers parent and child lessons and clinics to help toddlers and babies get used to the water and see the pool as fun! These classes focus on stroke development and water safety, and give parents and their children more confidence around the water. Children can then progress to Preschool Swim lessons and Youth Swim lessons. Stroke School clinics are available for the most advanced swimmers interested in transitioning to a competitive swim program.

Competitive Programs

A gateway to competitive swimming, our Junior Competitor program provides a great bridge between swim lessons and swim team. The YMCA has two swim team programs - YOTA, our nationally recognized year-round swim team, and summer swim teams, a less competitive program offered at branches during the summer.

Teens and Adults

Teens and adults can learn to swim in our adult swim lessons or work on strokes, turns and fitness swimming in our Masters Swim program

Lifeguard Training

The YMCA also trains lifeguards with our YMCA of the USA lifeguard training course that includes American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer (CPRO) and First Aid. Courses are offered seasonally.

Water Safety

We offer low-cost water safety and drowning prevention classes to children and adults based on income qualifications. This program is called Swim for Life and is fully funded through the YMCA of the Triangle's Annual Campaign

Private Swim Lessons

Private swim lessons for all ages are also available.
