MLK Day of Service at the Kraft Family YMCA

The Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service is a defining moment each year when Americans across the country step up to make communities more equitable and take action to create the beloved community of Dr. King’s dream.

MLK Day of Service at the Kraft Family YMCA

Volunteer to serve others on Monday, Jan. 19 in three different ways. All volunteers should register to participate.


Volunteer

Assemble Bean Soup

Help us feed the community by preparing jars of layered bean soup mix. The soup will be donated to the Holly Springs Food Cupboard. Help us ensure this event's success by donating soup ingredients between Dec. 29 - Jan. 18 in preparation for this service activity.

Ages: All ages are welcome.
Time: 10 a.m. - noon 
 
Kraft Family Y Community Garden Clean Up 

Help us prepare our garden for spring. Mend the fence, weed and mulch.
Ages: All ages are welcome.
Time: 10 a.m. - noon 

Adopt-a-Highway 

Help clean up our adopted section of Holly Springs Road. Participants should be high school age or older.  
Ages: 14 and up
Time: 1 - 3:30 p.m.

 

LEARN

We invite you to join us at 8 a.m. in the Kraft Family Y lobby coffee area on Jan. 19 as we gather to watch the live stream of the 46th Annual Interfaith Prayer Breakfast. Bringing together community members and leaders in celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s enduring legacy. 

Mission Possible II: Steadfast in the Storm: Honoring the Dream Amid Shifting Paradigms.
Keynote speaker: Rev’d Jemonde Taylor, priest, environmentalist, community organizer, and griot.



Father Taylor is a priest, environmentalist, community organizer and griot focused on the intersection of race, Christianity, Blackness and culture. He holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from NC State, a MS in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in robotics and vehicle design from Stanford University, and an M.Div. from the General Theological Seminary in NYC.
