THRIVE at the Taylor Family YMCA

Thrive at the Y!  Come to the Y to make friends, get active and volunteer (give back to the community). YMCA THRIVE is geared toward active older adult YMCA members.

Get active, and join a THRIVE group fitness class. In THRIVE group fitness classes, you will find workouts geared for active older adults held at convenient times. 

Make friends, THRIVE is a warm and welcoming community. Y’s host fun events at local restaurants and do community activities together.  

Volunteer, THRIVE members also team up to volunteer at local YMCA events, such as the Families On! Challenge or tutoring for students in our Y Learning or Community Hope programs

February 12 - NCMA “Portraits and Power” Tour 
This docent-led tour will explore both historic and contemporary portraits to demonstrate their powerful roles in how people are presented through images and compare the dynamics of power over the years. Lunch follows at the Marketplace at Lake Boone with multiple restaurants to choose from. Tour is free; lunch is self-pay. Shuttle departs at 9:15 a.m. and returns by 1 p.m. 

February 26 - NC State PULSTAR Nuclear Reactor Tour 
Did you know that the first academic research nuclear reactor in the world was at NC State? Join us as we learn about their program and tour the active PULSTAR Reactor. * NOTE: this tour requires navigating stairs and standing for long periods. Lunch follows at Café Carolina. Tour is free; lunch is self-pay. Shuttle departs at 9 a.m. and returns by 1 p.m.

March 5 - Western Wake Regional Water Reclamation Facility Tour 
We have all heard the alarming news about freshwater systems throughout the world being depleted beyond natural recover due to overuse, pollution and climate change. Join us on a free guided tour to learn about the important role this facility plays in recycling water to create renewable energy sources, protect our waterways, prevent illness and create nutrient-rich fertilizer. NOTE: This tour requires navigating stairs. Lunch follows at Cape Fear Seafood. Tour is free; lunch is self-pay. Shuttle departs at 9 a.m. and returns by 1 p.m. Registration is now open. 

March 19 - It’s Cherry Blossom Season at Duke Gardens! 
Join us for this magical springtime experience while you self-explore the variety of cherry blossoms and other floral species throughout the 55-acre world-class botanic garden. Lunch follows at your choice of Foster’s Market or Guglhupf. Duke Gardens is free; lunch is self-pay. Shuttle departs at 8:30 a.m. and returns by 1 p.m. Registration is now open.

April 19 - "Bright Star" at Temple Theatre 
Join us for a live performance at Temple Theatre in Sanford! * NOTE: You must order your own ticket(s) directly by one of the two methods below (make sure you are ordering tickets for the April 19, 2 p.m. performance). Tickets are $40 and often sell out quickly. When registering on Sign Up Genius for this trip, please note which seat you chose in the comment field (coordinator is in G108). Bright Star is a musical about a literary editor and a World War II soldier who discover a secret that changes their lives. The show is set in the American South in the 1920s and 1940s. When Alice Murphy meets a young soldier just home from World War II, he awakens her longing for the child she once lost. Haunted by their unique connection, Alice sets out on a journey to understand her past—and what she finds has the power to transform both of their lives. 

We'll start with lunch at Yarborough's Homemade Ice Cream & Grill, then walk across the block to the Temple Theatre. Shuttle departs at 10:45 a.m. and returns around 5:30 p.m. Performance and lunch are self-pay.
