YMCA Students Attend 55th Annual CONA Conference

Delegates from across North Carolina attended the 55th Annual Conference on National Affairs at the YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly in Black Mountain July 2 - 7. The conference brings together high school delegates from across the United States to gain awareness of national issues, understand how to make change in our federal government, and practice debate, public speaking, and collaboration skills.

Among the group of attendants was our NC Youth Governor, Noah Weyne. Alongside his proposal partner, the previous Youth Governor of South Carolina, Noah’s proposal passed through three committees and scored in the top 10 highest ranking of the conference to present in Plenary. Noah also serves as the National Youth Governor, both are elected positions.

In addition, the North Carolina delegation had a 100% proposal passing rate from Committee 2 to Committee 3. In these committees, the delegates presented their proposal and a large audience asked questions and engaged in debate prior to others ranking their proposals.

Two delegates from North Carolina were recognized for their high performance. Noah Weyne was awarded “Distinguished Delegate” and Mary Grace Hicks was awarded “Alternate Presiding Officer."
