Community Impact Review

2022 in Review

As the Southeast Raleigh YMCA continues to live into our Purpose Built Communities mission of ending intergeneration poverty in our 27610 service area, we create Community Impact Reports to publicize our efforts within the community.

Every day, the Southeast Raleigh YMCA and its partners work to serve the community based on its Purpose-Built Pillars: Health & Wellness, Cradle-to-Career Education, Mixed-Income Housing and Economic Opportunity.

Here's a brief look at how many lives were impacted in 2022:

Health & Wellbeing

• Advance Community Health hosted 8 Covid-19 clinics that provided 200 vaccinations.
• NC MedAssist Free Mobile Pharmacy worked with 50 volunteers to distribute medication to 1,204 participants.
• A total of 143,238 meals were distributed through the Family Food Distribution Hub at the Southeast Raleigh YMCA, serving 2,952 adults and 2,293 children.
• The Diaper Train provided 12,760 diapers for 216 children through Food Distribution.
• Wake Up and Read passed out a total of 1,200 books through Food Distribution.
• Black Farmers Market averaged roughly 500 participants per event throughout the year.

Education

• Youth programs served over 300 students including Club ROAR, which focused on social and emotional wellbeing.
• The Racial Equity Institute provided Groundwater Approach training to 100 participants.

Mixed Income Housing

• Wake County Social and Economic Vitality Program assisted over 1000 community members with housing applications.

Economic Opportunity

• 15 new Black and minority-owned businesses were added to the YMCA of the Triangle procurement system.
• A total of $280,325 was intentionally spent with minority-owned businesses: $136,782 was spent with Black farmers and grocers and $143,543 was spent with other minority-owned businesses.

These are just some of the impact statistics.

YMCA and partner programs taught community members how to engage with the affordable housing crisis, take charge of their health and nutrition and gain lifesaving swim skills. From blood drives to breast cancer awareness, diabetes prevention and workforce development, real people are working every day to make a difference.
