Family Weight Management Program

Healthy Weight and Your Child is a weight-management program that focuses on healthy eating, physical activity and behavior change to empower children and families to live healthier and more active lifestyles.

Evidence demonstrates that child weight-management programs are more effective when the whole family is involved and committed to adopting healthier habits.

Families registered for this program will work with trained leaders. During this time, children and an adult caregiver will learn about topics, including:

  • Healthy eating
  • Physical activity
  • Portion control
  • Internal and external triggers
  • Food label reading
  • Goal setting and rewards

Sessions & Cost

Healthy Weight and Your Child is a 15-week program that meets twice a week for ten weeks and once a week for five weeks. Each session is two hours.

Every class focuses on nutrition education and opportunities for family-based physical activity.

Healthy Weight and Your Child is offered at no cost to participants thanks to grant funding.

Y Health Programs

Qualifications

Children must be between the ages of 7 and 13 and have a body mass index at or above the 95th percentile. An adult caregiver must attend each session with their participating child.
