The YMCA offers adult and middle school wellness floor orientations for our new and existing members.
Both orientations are hosted by YMCA wellness floor staff and include information on adjusting equipment to fit you, proper use of equipment, and wellness floor etiquette.
ADULT ORIENTATION
At the Y, we're here to help you reach your wellness goals. With that in mind, we've created a new member Wellness Orientation to get you started on the path to success.
Our trained Fitness Center Staff will take you on a guided tour of the cardio and weight rooms, show you how to operate equipment and explain what you need to know to help you feel comfortable utilizing the Fitness Center.
Sign up for an orientation at the registration desk. Free for Y members.
MIDDLE SCHOOL ORIENTATION
Middle School aged members of the YMCA can use the cardio equipment, the gym, machine weights and the pool as well as attend certain group fitness classes once they complete a Middle School Orientation. Once complete, the middle school member will receive a membership card and will be able to visit the YMCA without a parent/ guardian. Middle School Orientations are for rising 6 - 8 graders.
Before a middle school member can use the pool, he/she must take a swim assessment. A swim assessment allows the YMCA to consistently assign safe swimming areas based on swim abilities. Once assessed, swimmers wear a swim band indicating where they are allowed in the pool.
A yellow band is earned when a swimmer can competently and confidently swim the front crawl 12.5 yards without stoping to rest. Then, without resting, tread water for 30 seconds in deep water with their face out of the water.
A black band is early when a swimmer can competently and confidently swim the front crawl 25 yards without stoping to rest. Then, without resting, tread water for 30 seconds in deep water with their face out of the water.
