Small Group Training Sessions

Small Group Training Sessions are led by a certified personal trainer and each session focuses on a specialized format such as strength training, endurance, or core. Participants will use ropes, kettlebells, bars, TRX equipment and more encouraging individual progression and skill development.

A variety of classes and times are offered throughout the Association.

Foam Rolling - Roll and Release

This 5-week small group training uses body rollers and small balls to relax the nervous system and rehydrate the connective tissue system known as fascia. Body rolling reduces stress and tension and increases overall well-being and mobility.

This program is offered at the Northwest Cary YMCA.

Tough Turf 

Are you ready to kick it up a notch with Small Group Training? TOUGH TURF is a full body functional workout that focuses on strength and conditioning with the use of functional equipment that mirrors our everyday movements. Think outside of the gym - tires, sandbags, hammers, kettlebells, battle ropes, you name it - this is not your traditional workout! If you are looking to change up or add to your routine and find a team that encourages you to push your goals to the next level- this workout is for you!

Powered by Glutes

Do you want to build and strengthen your glutes? Well, this class is for you. We will cover the mechanics and aesthetics of building the largest and most powerful muscle group in the body, the gluteal muscles. We build from the bottom-up, a workout that shows you how to activate and strengthen your glutes. The workout utilizes resistance bands, weight training including hip thrusts, Bulgarian split squats, Romanian Dead Lifts, and much more.

This program is offered at the Northwest Cary YMCA.

Strength, Agility and Quickness (SAQ)

Strength, Agility and Quickness (SAQ), for ages 11 - 17 years, focuses on helping participants to become better, stronger athletes. This training is full of drills and exercises. This training is designed to help athletes achieve their fitness goals. SAQ is held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 - 5 p.m. This is a free, ongoing training program that is held at the Northwest Cary YMCA.

Barbell Club: Weightlifting Competitions for Teens

The Northwest Cary YMCA is hosting the YMCA Barbell Club, which offers "Max Lift" competitions for teens ages 14-18. There are divisions for men and women, and winners receive a shirt. These are members-only, free events.

Dead Lift Competition
First Tuesday of each month, 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.

Squat Competition
Second Tuesday of the each month, 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.

Press Competition
Third Tuesday of each month, 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.

Registration is required. Sign up 48 hours prior to the event using the YMCA Mobile App. The first 10 people to register will compete.

The Legends of Iron Weightlifting Club: Competitions for Teens

The Taylor Family YMCA will be hosting a Max Lift Competition for teens ages 14 - 17. These events are free, members-only competitions. Space is limited to 10 participants. Sign-up in advance at the front desk.

Power Lifting Small Group Training

Join our Certified USA Powerlifting Coach for a 5 week course on proper form and program planning for the three major lifts: squat, bench press and deadlift. This small group training will help you improve your lifting technique and workout plan for maximal strength results. All strength levels are welcomed!

Get fast, effective, total-body workouts with TRX Suspension Training! TRX suspension straps use your body weight to provide resistance. There are hundreds of moves that can be performed in TRX to work out every muscle in your body.
