Small Group Training Sessions

Small Group Training Sessions are led by a certified personal trainer and each session focuses on a specialized format such as strength training, endurance, or core. Participants will use ropes, kettlebells, bars, TRX equipment and more encouraging individual progression and skill development.

A variety of classes and times are offered throughout the Association.
 

Strength, Agility and Quickness (SAQ)

Strength, Agility and Quickness (SAQ), for ages 11 - 17 years, focuses on helping participants to become better, stronger athletes. This training is full of drills and exercises. This is a free, ongoing training program designed to help athletes achieve their fitness goals.

SAQ is held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 - 5 p.m. at the Northwest Cary YMCA. Contact Andrian Rutherford for more information.

SAQ is also held on Thursdays from 4:30 - 5:30  p.m. at the Kerr Family YMCA. Sign up using the YMCA Mobile App. 

At the Kraft Family YMCA, SAQ is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4 p.m., and Saturdays at 10 a.m. Sign up in the YMCA App.

 

Barbell Club: Weightlifting Competitions for Teens

The Northwest Cary YMCA is hosting the YMCA Barbell Club, which offers "Max Lift" competitions for teens ages 14-18. There are divisions for men and women, and winners receive a shirt. These are members-only, free events.

Dead Lift Competition
First Tuesday of each month, 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.

Squat Competition
Second Tuesday of each month, 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.

Press Competition
Third Tuesday of each month, 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.

Tough Turf

Are you ready to kick it up a notch with Small Group Training? Tough Turf is a full body functional workout that focuses on strength and conditioning with the use of functional equipment that mirrors our everyday movements. Think outside of the gym -- tires, sandbags, hammers, kettlebells, battle ropes, you name it -- this is not your traditional workout! If you are looking to change up or add to your routine and find a team that encourages you to push your goals to the next level, this is the class for you!

This training meets at the Northwest Cary YMCA.

5-week series - Wednesdays - Begins on Oct. 12; 5:45 - 6:45 a.m.

Women's Barbell Club

Join Personal Trainer Pamela Formyduval to break down and progress the deadlift, squat, bench and hip thrust in the weight room. This small group training meets once per week in Studio X and barbell experience with these lifts is required.  This training will run in a 12 week program format, beginning in September. Please contact Pamela PRIOR to signing up.

This program is offered on Tuesdays or Thursdays at the Kraft Family YMCA.

Women EmPOWERed

Join Certified Wellness Practitioner and ACE Certified Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor Donnae for a 5 week small group training. This group focuses on empowering women to feel stronger physically and mentally with core building, plyometrics and additional strength exercises.

Mondays in August from 6 - 7 p.m. at the Southeast Raleigh YMCA.

Senior: Fit for Life

Join us for a 5-week training program led by a certified personal trainer that works on many avenues of exercise. This class will focus on cardio, building strength, balance, and flexibility. The goal is to get a great workout in while building community with other people!

This program is for ages 50 and up on Tuesdays from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. from Sept. 27 - Oct. 25 at the Alexander Family YMCA.

Women on Weights

A five week training program designed by women, for women! This class is led by a certified personal trainer that teaches proper technique, safety and etiquette for weight training. Small class sizes provide one-on-one attention and a comfortable environment for participants to learn at their own pace.

Held at the Alexander Family YMCA.
