Camp Great Adventure

Camp Great Adventure is a summer camp serving children in the Garner area. Camp Great Adventure is a full-day summer camp that will keep your child active and engaged all day long! Your camper will enjoy activities such as swimming, skill development, awards, weekly themes, crafts and outdoor games. Camp Great Adventure serves children in rising grades K - 5.  

Camp Great Adventure is held at Aversboro Elementary School, 1605 Aversboro Rd, Garner, NC 27529.


Camp Great Adventure summer day camp staff are comprised of high school and college-aged staff that are 16 and older. Each YMCA counselor is hand-picked for their enthusiasm, energy and maturity. All counselors are trained for at least 30 hours in topics ranging from group control, positive discipline, safety to basic first aid.

Camp Great Adventure hosts Family Nights throughout the summer. Family Nights give parents the opportunity to meet your child's counselors and your child's summer camp friends!  

Family Night 1: Thurs, June 27 at Aversboro Elementary 
Family Night 2: Thurs, July 18 at Aversboro Elementary
Family Night 3: Thurs, Aug 8 at Heather Hills Pool 

*Family Nights are from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. 

Camp Great Adventure

One of the keys to ensuring your child has a great camp experience is to come prepared for a fun camp day. A little planning can help your child's summer camp experience begin with a smooth start and ensure that he/she has an experience to remember! Be sure your child gets a good night's sleep and starts their day with a healthy breakfast. 


  • Backpack
  • Bathing suit (Please wear to camp on scheduled swim days)
  • Towel
  • Insulated lunch box or cooler
  • Healthy & Hearty lunch
  • Two snacks
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Wear comfortable clothes for active play
  • Wear close-toed shoes suitable for running
  • Rising Kindergarten: Blanket/Pillow for scheduled afternoon rest time
    Please label your child's belongings with their name to assist us in returning any lost and found items.


  • Electronics, games, phones or music players
  • Candy
  • Personal sports equipment
  • Money or valuables
  • Toys (Including pool toys and floats)
  • Flip-flops or open heeled sandals
  • Weapons (real or prop)


Though daily schedules vary based on themes, special events and weather, a typical day at camp will often look like this:

  • 7:00 – 8:30 a.m.: Rides In Activities
  • 8:30 - 9:00 a.m.: Flag Pole & Morning Assembly
  • 9:00 - 11:35 a.m.: Morning Activities & Snack
  • 11:45 a.m. - 12:55 p.m.: Staggered Lunch
  • 12:55 – 3:00 p.m.: Afternoon Activities
  • 3:00 - 3:50 p.m.: Snack/Bead Time
  • 4:00 - 4:30 p.m.: Afternoon Assembly
  • 4:45 - 6:00 p.m.: Rides Out Activities

Swim Times*:

Campers swim on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays at Heather Hills Pool.

  • 9:55 - 10:40 a.m.: Rising grades 3 - 5
  • 10:50 - 11:35 a.m.: Rising grades K - 2
    *Please confirm assigned swim time for your child with our Camp Office. Campers will leave 15 minutes prior to their swim time for a transition to the pool. 


Campers will undergo a swim assessment to determine their proficiency in the water. Campers will be assigned a swim band (yellow, black) that they will wear during swim time to indicate their swim level to lifeguards. If campers are not able to earn a band, they will be required to wear a life vest provided by the Y. For more information about YMCA swim assessments, watch this video!
