Swim for Life
We believe learning to swim can save lives.
The YMCA of the Triangle launched Swim for Life in March 2011 in response to reports that minority children and teens had high drowning rates, and some 70% of African-American kids did not know how to swim.
We believe swimming is a life skill and all children and adults should have access to water safety classes and basic swim lessons.
Swim for Life offers free swim lessons for children and adults based on income qualifications, and the program is funded through the YMCA's Annual Campaign.
Swim for Life classes are held periodically throughout the year at YMCA branches and serve children and families in Sanford, NC. These classes teach essential skills to reduce the risk of drowning and increase water confidence. The Ingram Family YMCA will offer Swim for Life in October 2025. We will have 4 classes of water safety skill building from 10 -11 a.m. on Saturdays in October.
25 participants will be selected for the program this fall from need or circumstance. If you are interested in finding out more about Swim for Life, please visit the link below and fill out the interest form. Swim instruction dates will be in early fall.
