Adelaide Kelley, a junior from West Carteret High, wants to be your 2027 Chief Justice. As a competitive swimmer, she recently had a moment of near-drowning, causing her to realize it’s not about her GPA, class rank, or writing briefs, but is instead about the people and community she surrounds herself with, and for Kelley, that community is YAG. She shared the qualifications of Chief Justice, including winning the Best Brief and Model Attorney awards, and is one of the 13 nationally ranked student chiefs in the country. In 2024, she was the only Court of Appeals delegate to compete at the National Judicial Competition. With this background, Adelaide plans to strengthen the judicial branch. As Kelley said, “We don’t have time to say, I’ll do it tomorrow or I’ll let someone else handle it. YAG is the place where we can prove to our towns, our government, and, mainly, ourselves that our voices are worth being heard…We are not just the leaders of tomorrow, but we are the leaders of today.” She believes that we are “laying the foundation for a future that is strong, safe, and united.”
