Camp Clearwater: CILTs

1720 Clearwater Lake Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27517

Summer 2026

The CILT program is a specialized leadership program for pre-teens/teens who want to develop leadership skills. CILTs will focus on listening to children, role modeling values, using positive discipline, teaching new skills, leading group games, and building respect. In addition to hands-on experience assisting with group huddles, CILTs will attend daily leadership trainings with the Teen Director or CILT Coordinator. The CILT program is available to rising 8th graders through 15-year-olds.

Camp Clearwater is our most developed CILT program location. We have 200-250 campers and 20 CILTs each week. We spend 100% of the day outdoors doing traditional camp activities, such as canoes, archery, fishing, arts & crafts, etc. Camp spirit is high with lots of songs and cheering. We bus to Meadowmont to swim twice per week.

Registration/Application Process:

  1. Register Online (beginning Jan. 1 for members, Jan. 15 for non-members)
  2. Complete CILT application (included in emailed registration confirmation)
  3. Teen attends (1) group interview at Chapel Hill - Carrboro YMCA
    -Tue., April 14, 6:30 - 8 p.m.
    -Mon., May 4, 6:30 - 8 p.m.

Please DO NOT WAIT TO REGISTER as spots do fill up quickly! Applications and group interviews are not a pass/fail system unless the teen director deems that a participant is concerningly ill-equipped to participate in the CILT program as determined in the group interview process.

At Camp, Character Matters

At YMCA Summer Day Camp, campers earn beads for exemplifying our five character traits: Honesty, Respect, Caring, Responsibility and Faith. Campers can earn beads daily by being a good friend, picking up after themselves or leading a camp prayer.

My name is Chandler Briggs, and I am the Teen Programs Director! I myself grew up in the YMCA and participated in Y programs from After School, to Sports, to even the CILT program! I am a Tar Heel born and bred and I got my bachelor's and master's degrees from UNC-Chapel Hill. For fun, I enjoy playing volleyball, dancing, watching reality tv, and running my Etsy shop.
