Staff Spotlight: Sable Woodard

The heart of our Durham YMCA is our members, volunteers and staff. We are blessed with staff members who bring their unique interests and backgrounds to our team and Y community. Sable Woodard is one of those special individuals, and we're pleased to share more about her!

"My name is Sable Woodard. I’m a senior at Johnson C. Smith University and I’m majoring in Sports Management.  My dream job is to be a sports journalist because I love talking to people and getting their opinions on how they see things. I’m a unique person - I literally look at the bright side of everything!

"I wanted to work for the Y because of the environment and the long-lasting relationships you can have. Working with kids just made it even better. I have been working for the Y for almost a year now and it’s been the best experience for me because it showed me that I can do anything when I put my mind to it. It also showed me that you always have a support system behind you cheering you on.

"When I’m not at the Y, I love getting my nails done and watching movies. I’m a big movie lover especially when it comes to action movies. Some of my favorites are the John Wicks and London Has Fallen movies. I’m also a big traveler! I’ve been to Paris, Washington DC, Pennsylvania Florida and more! I love exploring and eating new foods and meeting new people.

"Something I like to say is 'Take the risk. Don’t let the unknown stop you from progressing.' I say this because you never know what the future holds if you hold yourself back. When you believe, anything is possible."

“Sable has been a vital member of the youth department. During her time with the YMCA, she served the youth in a number of different capacities but now currently serves as a site coordinator. She has shown not only her commitment and dedication to the uplifting and caring of our after school and summer camp babies, but also to her team and the greater YMCA family. Sable is currently a senior at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina. She chose to finish her senior year online so she could continue working with the Durham YMCA. We know she has a bright future! The youth department is grateful to have her forever part of our YMCA family.”
