Kerr Member Spotlight | Ivan Barnes

Say hello to Ivan

Ivan Barnes holds a special place at the Kerr Family YMCA.  You have probably seen Ivan in our halls or in our classes.  He can often be found at a high top table enjoying a conversation.

If you have met Ivan, you probably know he is something of a poet and some of his favorite subject matter comes from our YMCA.  Ivan has been a member since we opened and he truly enjoys getting to know our instructors and other members.

Ivan and his wife Donna moved to the area in 1998 and as soon as he heard a YMCA was going to be built he knew he wanted to be a part of it.  He has always been an athlete and retirement was not going to slow him down.  He has a strong faith and he knew that connecting at the YMCA would help him reach his fitness goals and allow him to give back to others.

He has been a volunteer in our Annual Campaign and we are so glad to consider him a part of our YMCA Family.  If you see Ivan in the hall before class, be sure to say hello and ask about his latest poems.  Below is a poem he wrote about one of our instructors, Kathy:

Kathy

Not a mean bone in her body

All water action is her hobby

The option queen of the pool

In the water, she’s quite cool

Exercise with Kathy, you can’t go wrong

And soon you’ll be very strong

The “Y” is her second home

Let’s really hope she doesn’t roam

We're proud to shine our "Member Spotlight" on Ivan. He certainly makes our Y feel that much more like home!
