Drop Off and Pick Up at Day Camp - Everything You Need to Know

Child safety and well-being are top priorities for the YMCA especially during drop off and pickup times, otherwise known as Rides In and Rides Out. You can count on YMCA counselors to greet your child and help make summer day camp drop off and pick up smooth.

MORNING DROP OFF

Each morning campers are dropped off at day camp in a specific area, usually called the Rides In area.

  • Please look for signs at your camp indicating where you should pull in.
  • A counselor will greet you and your child, open the car door and help your child exit the car.
  • If you need to speak with the camp director or other staff member during Rides In, please park and come in. The car line needs to keep moving and parking in the line leads to congestion.
  • If you arrive after Rides In has ended, please park your car and walk your child into the camp office to sign in.

PICKUP CARDS

To ensure the safety of all participants, parents will receive YMCA pickup cards.

  • Please clearly print your child’s first and last name on the card and display it on the car windshield during pickup, or Rides Out, time.
  • YMCA staff will ask for identification from anyone who attempts to pick up a child without displaying a YMCA pickup card. If you need additional cards for sitters, grandparents, etc., please ask the day camp program office. If a questionable situation arises, YMCA staff will stay with the child until a parent has been contacted.
  • A driver’s license may be requested for identification.

AFTERNOON PICK UP

Each camp has an afternoon pickup time, called Rides Out, where you can pick up your camper. Look for the signs when you arrive at day camp.

  • Please have your YMCA pickup card or photo identification ready.
  • All children must be buckled up before leaving camp. Counselors are not permitted to secure a child into a car seat or buckle their seat belt.
  • If you need to have someone pick up your child who is not listed as approved for pickup, please make sure to let your YMCA camp director know in writing (email or handwritten note).
  • If you are picking up early, it helps us if you send a note in the morning or call the camp office ahead of time. This way our counselors can have your camper(s) ready when you arrive. Please park in a parking space so as to not stop traffic in the Rides Out lane.
