MLK Teen Day of Service

The YMCA of the Triangle and the United Way of the Greater Triangle are teaming up with community partners to celebrate the legacy of Dr. King with the MLK Teen Day of Service: “A Day On, Not A Day Off.”

Teens from the Y Community are invited to come together as we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through a day of meaningful service and reflection. The MLK Teen Day of Service empowers young people to give back through hands-on volunteer projects.

This special day is an opportunity for teens to turn Dr. King's dream into action by making a tangible impact in their neighborhoods—proving that anyone, regardless of age, can be a force for positive change.

Two Locations:

  • A.E. Finley YMCA, 9216 Baileywick Rd. Raleigh NC 27615
  • Durham Downtown YMCA, 218 W. Morgan St. Durham NC 27701

We are proud to support three community-focused organizations through hands-on service activities:

  • Literacy Kit Assembly – Kits will be distributed by the Partnership for Children (Wake & Durham Counties).
  • Hygiene Kit Assembly – Kits will be distributed by Oak City Cares (Wake County).
  • No-Sew Blanket Assembly – Blankets will be distributed by HEARTS (Durham County).
  • Notes of Affirmation – Participants can write uplifting notes that will accompany the kits and blankets, spreading encouragement to those receiving them.

Not only are there meaningful volunteer opportunities for teens, but we several ways for adults to get involved in support of this project and our community. All volunteers must sign up through Volunteer Matters to participate.
