Y Learning: Mihir's Story
Mihir discovered our Y Learning program in 2017. As a student at Panther Creek High School, he had the opportunity to shadow teachers at Mills Park Elementary. There, Mihir was so inspired by the family-like atmosphere that he decided to be a counselor at Camp High Hopes with the Taylor Y over the summer. Since then, Mihir has also become a Y Learning counselor, growing relationships with students through homework help, soccer and after-school fun.
After-school groups like Mills Park are part of a community of over 1,000 students in Wake, Chatham, Durham, Johnston, Lee, Orange and Pamlico Counties that participate in Y Learning. These students participate in this standardized tutorial program at no cost, thanks to donations given to our Annual Campaign. Mihir was so moved by the impact of the Campaign on the group he leads that he recently ran a half marathon to raise donations. Mihir's efforts resulted in over $1,000 in donations to keep programs like Y Learning going strong.
