Suntrust Supports Y Learning

Thursday, February 28, 2019

On February 21, leaders from the YMCA, Walnut Creek Elementary School and the Suntrust Foundation gathered to share an exciting announcement with students at the school and the community.

The Suntrust Foundation presented a gift of $25,000 to the YMCA to support the Y Learning Program held at Walnut Creek Elementary.  The Y Learning program at Walnut Creek Elementary School serves 45 students through a hands-on science and math curriculum.

Y Learning, the YMCA of the Triangle’s standardized tutorial program, serves students in grades 3 – 8 who struggle to reach school system benchmarks. Most Y Learning students lack financial and educational support at home. Students participate in Y Learning at no cost, thanks to donations to the YMCA’s We Build People Annual Campaign and community support.

Thanks to this gift, students at the school will continue to receive support in reaching their academic goals.  Special thanks to Suntrust for this gift. Learn more about the Y Learning Program and the Y’s We Build People Annual Campaign here.
