Volunteer Spotlight: Amir
The Kerr Family YMCA relies upon a number of dedicated volunteers who help us every day to carry out the mission of the Y: putting Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
We recently caught up with Amir, who volunteers at the Kerr Family YMCA's Access Desk, helping greet people with a smile, fold towels and give out locker keys. We're grateful for volunteers like Amir, who choose to spend their time helping out at the Y and supporting our work in strengthening the foundations of our community. We asked Amir about himself and about some of what motivates him to volunteer at the Y...
what are some of your hobbies?
I love sports, I like experiencing new restaurants and I love sports statistics. I also like going to the beach, pizza and driving my car.
do you have any pets?
I have a pet Chihuahua named Cowboy!
what are some fun facts about yourself
Favorite Ice Cream: Cookies & Cream
Favorite Sports Team: Los Angeles Lakers & Duke
Favorite Board Game: Clue
Favorite Book: The Percy Jackson series
Favorite Movie: All of the Jurassic Park movies
what is your favorite part about volunteering?
Knowing that I'm giving back in some way. I believe it encourages people to embrace each other and their community.
what have you learned about yourself by volunteering?
I have learned that by freely giving you receive a reward more gratifying than pay.
if you could encourage someone else to volunteer at the y, what would you say?
I would say the Y is a great place to volunteer your time. You get to become a part of a family and community that cares for individuals and their community.
Thanks again to Amir for all of his time volunteering at the Kerr Family YMCA access desk. If you or someone you know might be interested in getting plugged in as a YMCA volunteer, contact our Director of Volunteerism at Jennifer.Gleason@YMCATriangle.org.
