The A.E. Finley YMCA invites our community to join us for our Annual Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, May 2 from 6:45 - 8 a.m in the Finley Gym. Come share a short program, music and prayer. about al byrd
Al Byrd is a 1986 graduate of Smithfield-Selma Senior High School, where he played on championship teams in football, basketball and track. After high school, Byrd was a part of Coach Dick Sheridan's first recruiting class as NC State. With the Wolfpack, was a four-year letterman, playing both offense and defense during his time in Raleigh.
After earning his B.A. in history, Byrd taught and coached high school football in Durham for two years. He later served as a program coordinator in Wilson, NC, assisting first-generation students with college exploration. In 2004, Byrd accepted a position with the City of Raleigh's Parks and Recreation Department, serving eight years as a Community Center Director.
Since 2013, Byrd has served with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) as a full-time Life Coach to the NC State Football team. He is committed to serving the coaches, players and support staff wherever needed, displaying the love of the Lord in good times and in challenging times.
In his spare time, Byrd enjoys golf, reading and traveling with his wife, Kim, and daughter, Alexandria and Alyssa. Byrd's favorite scripture is Psalm 1 16:12: what shall I render unto the Lord for all his benefits toward me?
