Monday, November 20, 2017
Thanks to Google Fiber, the Downtown Durham YMCA is now a Google Fiber Community Connection, which means faster Internet speeds to support community programs.
The faster connection will increase the Y’s ability to strengthen programming and offerings for the Durham community.
“The YMCA is dedicated to supporting its members and the entire Durham community through programs that focus on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility,” said Laura Ferguson, Branch Executive Director of the Durham YMCA's. “Google Fiber will help us to deliver these programs in a faster, more efficient manner."
Through its Community Connections program, Google Fiber brings its superfast Internet to organizations like the Y to support critical community services, for free.
"The Y is in the business of people," said Laura. "We are connectors. Google Fiber will enable us to connect the community in a stronger, more efficient way.”
“The most important part of the YMCA of the Triangle mission statement is ‘for all,’” said Gary Autrey, VP of Information Technology for YMCA of the Triangle. “Google Fiber will help us deliver that mission across the digital divide.”
“We’re excited to partner with the downtown Durham YMCA, which serves everyone,” said Tia Bethea, Community Impact Manager for Google Fiber Raleigh-Durham. “We can’t wait to see what their members do with superfast Internet. From students to seniors, we know access to the Internet is one important step to bridge the gap in digital inclusion and equity.”
