Community is plural, not singular.
The YMCA of the Triangle is made up of people of all ages and from every walk of life working side by side to strengthen our community. Together, we work to ensure that everyone, regardless of ability, age, cultural background, ethnicity, faith, gender, gender identity, ideology, income, national origin, race or sexual orientation has the opportunity to reach their full potential with dignity. Our Mission compels us to embrace, reflect and celebrate the richness of diversity within each other and the communities we serve. Our core values - caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and faith in God - guide everything we do.
Our commitment to inclusion and diversity creates better individuals, a better community and a better world.
We firmly believe the key to effectively nurturing the potential of children, improving the community's health and well-being and supporting our neighbors is a passionate, experienced and diverse group of staff, volunteers and members who value what everyone brings to the table. Working across seven counties in one of the fastest growing regions in our country makes strong inclusion and diversity practices essential to our organization.
We believe our employees and volunteers are our most valuable assets in our efforts to further our Mission and advance our Cause.
To emphasize our commitment to a diverse and inclusive environment, we encourage our employees and volunteers to participate in our Employee Resource Groups. These employee-led groups provide a space for people to network, mentor one another, share their knowledge and experiences, participate in personal and professional development, enhance their leadership skills, inform strategic decisions and provide consultation when needed—all while building meaningful connections across our YMCA.
Today, staff members actively participate in three Employee Resource Groups at the YMCA of the Triangle:
1. Women’s Leadership Network
2. African-American Hispanic-Latino Network
3. LGBTQ+ Network
