YMCA CEO Honored with Friend of Education Award
YMCA of the Triangle Chief Executive Officer Doug McMillan was honored with the prestigious Vernon Malone Friend of Education Award Wednesday at the Stars of Education awards dinner and celebration at the Raleigh Marriott City Center.
Stars of Education, presented by PNC Bank, is an annual awards dinner to celebrate and honor those who form the backbone of public education in our schools.
The Vernon Malone Friend of Education Award is the highest honor awarded by Wake Education Partnership. It is given to someone who has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to public education and emulates the personal qualities of the late Senator Vernon Malone.
According to WakeEd, recipients of this award set a high standard for selfless dedication to the ongoing improvement of public education — moving from words to deeds that have a lasting impact. Those nominated for the award must come from outside the field of education, be persuasive advocates for all children, and serve as an example for others.
The YMCA of the Triangle is thankful for Doug’s visionary leadership and the positive impact he makes every day in the lives of children, adults and families. He is an inspiration to us all and this recognition is well-deserved. He sets an example of excellence as a CEO, family-man, friend and community leader.
Doug, his five children, and Doug's father all graduated from Wake County Public Schools. Join us in congratulating our CEO Doug McMillan for this award!
