THRIVE at the Taylor Family YMCA

Thrive at the Y!  Come to the Y to make friends, get active and volunteer (give back to the community). YMCA THRIVE is geared toward active older adult YMCA members.

Get active, and join a THRIVE group fitness class. In THRIVE group fitness classes, you will find workouts geared for active older adults held at convenient times. 

Make friends, THRIVE is a warm and welcoming community. Y’s host fun events at local restaurants and do community activities together.  

Volunteer, THRIVE members also team up to volunteer at local YMCA events, such as the Families On! Challenge or tutoring for students in our Y Learning or Community Hope programs

Special Events:

March 26:  Camp Kanata Field Trip!  
And you thought only kids got all the fun? It's our turn! THRIVE groups from multiple Triangle Y's will enjoy archery, fishing, hiking, pickleball, fellowship and more!  Lunch at the Camp's dining hall is included! Cost is $25. Shuttle departs the Taylor YMCA at 8:45 a.m., then stops at the Northwest Cary YMCA to pick up their members. Shuttle returns to Northwest Cary Y at approximately 2:15 p.m., then proceeds to the Taylor Family Y.  Details with payment link are forthcoming and will be sent to registrants.

March 30: Downtown Raleigh Walking Tour
Join us on this 1 hour guided downtown Raleigh walking tour, taking you off the beaten path for some of Raleigh’s most vibrant murals and public art! The tour is “pay-what-you-want” - cash only (avg. $10-15/per person suggested). Lunch at Taverna Agora follows (self-pay). Shuttle leaves at 10 a.m.; returns by 2:45 p.m.

April 13: Herbarium Workshop at Raleigh City Farm 
Raleigh City Farm is a non-profit urban farm which gives back to the community through regenerative agriculture. You are invited into the artist’s process of creating an Herbarium, an artful collection of flowers and plantings. You’ll gain an artist's perspective on a guided walk among the planting rows at Raleigh City Farm to preserve memories of this day. All materials are supplied. Cost is $15 (this is open to the public; only 20 spots are available - on a first come basis). Link will be sent to pay online. Lunch follows at Standard Beer & Food (self-pay). Shuttle departs at 9:25 a.m.; returns by 1 p.m.

April 20:  National Weather Service Tour
Join us for a private presentation by a meteorologist followed by a tour of the operations area where you can gain insight on what forecasters do on duty every day. Brunch follows at 10:45 a.m. at Cafe Carolina. Tour is free; brunch is self pay. Shuttle departs at 8:20 a.m.; returns around 12:30 p.m.

May 2:  Join us on a guided tour of the beautiful Executive Mansion gardens 
The garden tour includes the Southern Victorian Garden, the Kitchen Garden, a Rose Garden, the Vegetable and Cut Flower Garden and more! Following the tour, we will dine at the Transfer Co. Food Hall. Tour is FREE; lunch is self-pay. Shuttle departs at 9:50 a.m. and returns by 1:45 p.m.

May 18:  Brew 'N' Choo
Take a relaxing train ride through the woods of New Hill and enjoy a nice brewery draft beer from a local beer vendor. The train ride lasts for about an hour and you may bring food and drinks on the train with you. Link will be sent to you to order ticket. Dinner follows at Daniel's Italian Restaurant in Apex (self-pay). Shuttle leaves at 3:15 p.m.; returns around 7:30 p.m.

June 1: Carolina Mudcats Game
"Take me out to the ball game, take me out with the crowd..." Join us on Saturday, June 1 as the Carolina Mudcats take on the Delmarva Shorebirds! Choose your own seats when you order through this link. BONUS: The Milwaukee Brewers (owners) will donate $6 to the YMCA for each ticket purchased through the link to help raise funds for programs that help the most vulnerable in our community -- a win-win for all! Game time is 5 p.m. (The sun will be setting behind us.); Cost is $13 per person. The shuttle departs at 4 p.m. from the Taylor Family YMCA and returns around 9 p.m. Transportation is for members only, but the link may be shared with anyone who wishes to join us in our reserved sections (216 & 217). The more the merrier!

June 18:  Lavender Oaks Farm
Join us for a wonderfully colorful and fragrant visit to Lavender Oaks Farm featuring acres of lavender fields, historic barns and a boutique. Blooms will be ripe for "u-pick season." Admission is free. If you would like to "pay-to-pick," it's $25 for 25 stems (pay at farm).  Lunch follows at O'YA Cantina (self-pay). Shuttle departs at 10 a.m.; returns by 2 p.m.
