More Than Jumping Rope

If you think jump rope is child’s play, you haven’t seen the Super Skippers in action. Founded in 1994, this YMCA of the Triangle program makes it possible for young people to develop leadership skills and compete against peers in other countries.
“Jump Rope is a unique and friendly competition that allows you to make friends throughout the world,” said Catherine Perry, YMCA Super Skippers Head Coach.
The Super Skippers is competitive team that include a Performance team and an Elite group that entertains audiences with speed jumping and gymnastic elements. Watch a recent performance at Cary High School.
The Team trains three days a week, increasing to five days a week when preparing for competitions, working to improve speed, endurance, strength and freestyle skills. They also host several clinics and summer camps at three YMCA of the Triangle locations.
“Super Skippers volunteer with opportunities that impact the community at home as well as teach workshops as far away as Germany,” said Catherine.
The Performance team won the last five USA National Championships. See the action from last year’s National Championship in this video from USA Jump Rope.
In July, the YMCA Super Skippers performed for the first time as a team at the 2016 World Jump Rope Championship in Portugal.
