2018 Youth Legislature Conference
Tuesday, February 6, 2018
The YMCA of the Triangle will host the 26th annual Youth Legislature Conference in Raleigh February 8 - 11. More than 900 students and their adult advisors from across North Carolina will learn how state government works while serving as legislators, reporters, lobbyists or appellate attorneys.
“As Governor, I look forward to helping delegates realize the fruits of their labor,” said Cooper Edmunds, Student Governor. “My cabinet is committed to helping the next administration succeed and learn.”
Students prepare for the conference by participating in NC YMCA Youth & Government programs through their high schools or local YMCAs.
“We are developing tomorrow’s leaders,” said Leigh Dauchert, Youth & Government State Director. “These students catch the excitement of shaping the future by their hands-on involvement in the legislative process.”
One of the highlights of the conference is an appearance by Kane Smego, spoken word & hip hop artist, National Poetry Slam finalist and co-founder of the youth arts and education nonprofit Sacrificial Poets.
This year’s conference is made possible in part by a financial gift from AT&T. "America's future is shaped by young people's energy and enthusiasm for civic engagement and governmental leadership," said Robert Doreauk, AT&T Regional Director for External Affairs. "AT&T is pleased to support this year's conference and excited about the difference it will make in the lives and futures of the participating students."
The 2018 NC YMCA Youth Legislature will be held at the Legislative Office Building, Raleigh Convention Center, Sheraton, and the Marriott.
