Making an Impact through Social Responsibility
On Thursday night, Nov. 9, more than 100 YMCA volunteers, staff and donors came together to celebrate the conclusion of the 2017 Annual Campaign.
When the Annual Campaign kicked off five weeks ago, the A.E. Finley YMCA announced a goal of raising $600,000 to serve kids, adults and families within the Finley community.
Funds raised by the Annual Campaign go toward programs like swim lessons, summer camp, LiveSTRONG, the Diabetes Prevention Program and Y-Learning, an after-school program that provides and educational support to at-risk children in the community. These and many other programs impacted by the campaign aim to serve the YMCA's areas of focus: Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility.
The campaign is led by volunteers and staff that are challenged to raise money by sharing the "Y Story" in their community.
During Thursday's Victory Party, Dick Johnson and his son, Richard, were invited onto the stage to speak about the impact Finley's Camp G.R.A.C.E. has had on their lives. "Camp G.R.A.C.E. has meant so much for our family," said Mr. Johnson. "I don't know that my son could be the guy he is today without Camp. It really spurred his development socially, athletically and spiritually. Words cannot express the meaning of this for our family."
After telling more stories of the Campaign and celebrating some key volunteers, Branch Director Berry Oliver and Campaign Chair Terry Godown announced that David Stahl will be taking the baton as Campaign Chair in 2018. "Everyone here at the Finley YMCA is a family and I'm so grateful for that," said David. "I can't wait to be the Campaign Chair for 2018!"
At the end of the night, we revealed the grand total raised during this year's Campaign to date: $601,610. Because of this year's Campaign, we will be able to continue making an incredible impact throughout the North Raleigh community. Thank you to everybody that played a part in helping us reach and surpass our goal!
