2024 Delta Swim for Life

At the Y, we believe teaching children and adults how to be safe around water is not a luxury but a necessity.  Swim for Life is designed to reduce the risk of drowning and build confidence in and around water.

The YMCA’s Swim for Life program teaches essential water safety skills through a series of sessions for children and families in our Y Learning, Community Hope, Camp Excel and other YMCA community partner programs at no cost.

This spring, we’re making a big splash by hosting Swim for Life sessions at YMCAs across the Triangle thanks to a sponsorship from Delta Air Lines.

Volunteer Information

To make Swim for Life possible, we rely on volunteers from our community. It's not necessary to be a swimming professional. We ask that volunteers are confident swimmers and have some swimming experience. There are additional opportunities to cheer on participants and help with check-in. All volunteers will receive a brief training from Y staff before the sessions start.

To provide continuity for swimmers, volunteer instructors are asked to attend all sessions over the three-week period. Volunteers will help with instruction under the guidance and supervision of the swim lesson instructor staff. Spanish speakers are desired.

To sign up to volunteer please select the location where you wish to volunteer. You'll be directed to a separate website, Volunteer Matters, where you can sign up. The YMCA requires background checks and a 25-minute online training for all volunteers.
