We hear it all the time – there’s one particular counselor who made all the difference between a good summer, and a really special experience.
The fact is, a competent, mature and caring staff is essential to ensure a successful program. Each staff member has to be committed to placing the needs of campers before their own needs. They’re there to listen, to give a hug or word of encouragement, and to provide an excellent example.
That’s why we work so hard to make sure every member of our staff is Kanata-ready.
Camp staff members are carefully selected to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for the camper. Each summer, our staff includes several individuals from other countries. They contribute some of their culture to the camp and allow campers to broaden their view of the world. To ensure the quality of the program and your child’s safety, Kanata strives to maintain a 1:5 counselor-to-camper ratio.
Qualified college students, high school graduates, rising high school seniors and graduates of our two-year Trainee program
are chosen to be counselors. They must have a genuine love for, and understanding of, young people.
Our two-phased Trainee program is geared
toward training past campers to become future counselors: the CILT (Camper in Leadership Training) program for 15-years-olds, and the CIT (Counselor in Training) program, with attendees selected from the previous summer’s CILT group.
