When parents arrive at Kanata for the first time, we often hear a similar refrain:"This reminds me of when I went to camp." And with roots here that go back 50 years, that comes as no surprise.
You'll find everything that it takes to make for a fun-filled resident camping experience. Rustic cabins nestled among tall pines. Two spring-fed lakes. Miles of hiking trails, grassy athletic fields, horse stables and riding rings. It really does feel like someone's ideal version of "camp."
We're also actively renewing and replacing facilities, to provide an even better camp experience for kids – and even greater peace of mind for their parents. So you'll see some new cabins (and new bathrooms), new decks, a new aquatics center and a bunch of other shiny new stuff.
Cabin life is at the heart of the camp experience. The close-knit cabin environment provides an opportunity to establish camaraderie and a sense of community. Most of our cabins house two counselors and 10 campers, grouped together by age and gender. Each section of camp has its own central shower house with private stalls.
Spread around the campus are an air-conditioned dining hall that seats more than 300, a health center with a nurse's quarters, a 7,000 square foot covered pavilion and an outdoor chapel. Activity areas include riflery and archery ranges, challenging ropes courses, a bouldering wall, 75-foot waterslide, zip line, miniature golf course, craft shop and a lakeside council ring for Friday-night campfires.
