Where do great counselors
come from? Great campers, of course. Kids who start out in the
Kanata family on the camper side often grow and mature into successful
staff members.
To help in that transition, Camp Kanata offers a
a two-phased Trainee program
for 15- and 16-year-olds, specifically geared toward training past campers to
become future counselors.
The CILT (Camper in Leadership Training) program is available to rising 10th
graders (at least 15 years old). This phase is designed to help bridge the gap
from camper to counselor. CILTs enjoy the security of a group environment while
learning under the direction of a staff trainee director. CILTs work on goal
setting and personal growth while discovering the essential characteristics of
a Trainee Director.
CILTs work on
goal setting and personal growth while discovering the essential characteristics of a good cabin counselor. And they learn the art of servant leadership, through their work in the dining hall before and during meals. (Translation: expect to set tables and deliver food on a daily basis. Which makes the CILT program especially great training if you’re looking to get into the waiter business.)
The CIT (Counselor in Training) program is for selected CILTs from the previous
summer. CITs live in a cabin with the campers, observing the counselors and meeting
with the Trainee Director to discuss their observations.
