BASKETBALL LEVEL RED

Knowledge:
1.
Define the five positions and the court lines. The five positions are the center, power forward, small forward, shooting guard, and point guard. The court lines are the out-of-bounds lines, three-point line, free-throw line, half-court line, and free-throw lane.

Character Development:

Identify the five character traits and their colors. The character traits are caring (red), honesty (blue), respect (yellow), responsibility (green), and faith in God (purple).

Skills:

Demonstrate the proper triple threat position. Player should square up to the basket with feet shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent, and weight on the balls of their feet. The ball should be in a shooting/passing/dribbling position at their hip.

4. Demonstrate both a chest and a bounce pass. Player holds the ball with both hands chest-high stepping in the direction of the pass, and either bouncing the ball three-quarters of the way to another player or pushing the ball from the chest of the passer to the chest of the receiver.

5. Demonstrate the ability to dribble. Player must dribble from one end of the court to the other with head up and controlling the ball with one hand. Player can choose which hand they wish to dribble with for this drill.

6. Demonstrate the ability to slide defensively. Player must keep knees bent and move by bringing one foot next to the other without crossing them, then, taking another step with the opposite foot in the same direction. Player's hands should be extended out sideways as he or she moves.
