Camp Great Adventure has a history of tradition at the YMCA of Garner. You can expect fun-filled days with endless opportunities to engage in active sports, learn new skills, work on crafts, and make new friends. The counselors at Camp Great Adventure create a positive environment where your child will foster lifelong relationships. Daily assemblies contain songs, contests, and skits. Each week is packed with excitement ranging from Thumpin' Thursdays costume contest, swimming and assemblies!
Camp Great Adventure is not only a fun place to be this summer, but undoubtedly safe. Each counselor undergoes an extensive interview, reference and background check, and completes 30 hours of staff training prior to the start of the camp season. The YMCA operates summer programs on a 1:10 staff to child ratio. Your child's safety and well being are our top priorities!

World Famous Assemblies Counselors getting messy, kids singing camp songs, skits that make you laugh....all part of a Camp Great Adventure assembly. We kick off every day at camp by raising the flag and giving our campers a "Wacky Workout" where they move to the music through exercise and dance! Campers are recognized in front of the entire camp in assembly for showing character. During assembly, campers can participate in challenges, hear the thought for the day, win the coveted spirit stick and much more! Just buckle up and get ready to have some fun!
Family Events Bring out the whole family! At Camp Great Adventure, we hold an event for the entire family giving parents a chance to meet their child's counselors and spend some time doing camp activities. Each Family Program is unique with tons of different activities to enjoy. Below are the dates and locations for our family programs this summer.
Thursday, June 16th: 4:00 p.m. Talent Show and Pelican SnoBalls. Held on-site at camp. Saturday, July 14th: Family Fitness Day, Location and time to be determined. Thursday, August 9th: 6:30 p.m. End of Summer Bash, Heather Hills Clubhouse and Pool. Thursday, August 16th: 4:30 p.m. Dancefest, Kids and Counselors will present their dance and huddle cheer to entire camp. Held on-site at camp.
Ranks and Skill Development Ranks are a unique way for children to learn new skills in a variety of activities. Each day campers choose a different skill on which to focus their Rank time. The focus is not 'playing' the game, but learning how to play the game. For example, during Soccer rank, campers will be learning passing drills, discussing team strategy, practicing shooting at the goal and learning the rules of soccer. It is an intentional time used to help campers develop new skills and refine old skills so that they become more proficient in that specific activity. Each camper receives a Ranks Manual on their first day of camp which allows them to track their skill development and progress throughout the summer. Our Ranks include: soccer, basketball, flag football, creative arts, fitness, tennis, hockey and wiffle ball.
Who doesn’t have fun with Thumpin' Thursdays? Thumpin' Thursdays happens every Thursday at Camp Great Adventure! Everyone (counselors, directors and campers) dress up in costume according to the theme of the week. In morning assembly, we will hold a costume competition and award one camper with the Thumpin' Thursday Costume Award for having the best costume!
What to Bring Please pack a lunch, two snacks, a water bottle, a bathing suit, sunscreen, and a towel for your camper. If you think your child might need a change of clothes, feel free to pack them as well. We encourage flip flops for the pool but they are not a mandatory item. Counselors CANNOT APPLY sunscreen on your children, so please apply sunscreen to your child before camp.
