How do I find out about the program?
If you're a current YMCA Guides and Princesses participant, or you're interested in joining the program, visit the official Arapahoe Nation Web site. You'll be able to check out our mission, program content and outings information. You can also find resources such as songs, crafts, stories, tricks and much more.
What is the purpose of the program?
Dads, no gift you will ever give to your son or daughter will mean as much as the time you spend with him or her. The memories you and your child will make in this program will last a lifetime. The YMCA Guides & Princesses program is open to boys and girls in the first through third grades, and their dads. After the third year, Guides move into the Trailblazers program and Princesses move into the Trailmates program.
What will we do?
Tribes are composed of 7-to-10 fathers and their sons or daughters. Tribes meet twice a month in a member’s home complete with fun activities including:
- Games
- Crafts
- Stories
- Tricks
- Songs
In addition, tribes organize monthly outings such as:
- Camping
- Hiking
- Horseback Riding
- Community Service
- Cookouts
All Wake County tribes come together for the Fall and Spring Outings, Winter Inning, Polar Bear Swim and Kite Flying Day.
The highlight of the year is the Spring Outing weekend at Camp Sea Gull and Camp Seafarer in Arapahoe, NC. Guides & Princesses tribes get to sleep in cabins and enjoy activities such as: archery, riflery, canoeing, riding the zipline, swimming, shark tooth hunting, and singing around a campfire and much more!
How do we sign up for the program?

The First Year Orientation & Sign-Up Meeting for Y-Guides and Princesses Meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 9th, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. in the McKimmon Center, located on the corner of Western Blvd. and Gorman St. in Raleigh (near NCSU Campus). We’ll be discussing the program and forming tribes. This meeting is for DADS ONLY, with rising first graders. While some Dads come to this meeting with their tribes already formed, it’s perfectly fine to come without a tribe, and find other Dad’s at this meeting to start a tribe. Most tribes are formed by grouping Dads based on zip code. For any questions, please call Matt Strickland at (919) 582-2266. See you there!

Rockmont Registration Opens Monday, June 16, 2008 Camp Rockmont Fall Outing is where you’ll spend an exciting weekend in the pristine mountains of North Carolina. Camp Rockmont is located four hours west of Raleigh in Black Mountain, NC. At camp you’ll have the chance to ascend a fifty-foot high climbing wall, jam out to the greatest music of all time while at the archery range, ride a waterslide off the side of the mountain, understand why people truly "Fear the Moose" (THE BLOB), and go on a optional whitewater rafting adventure! Registration for Camp Rockmont begins on Monday, June 16th. The cost for Camp Rockmont is $110.00 per person. The registration period ends on Friday, August 8, 2008, and any registrations received after this deadline will incur a $20 late fee per pair. We prefer that you send one representative to register your whole tribe at one time. You must pay your dues at the time of registration. Again this year, your tribe will be able to choose the weekend that your tribe wishes to go to Camp Rockmont. We will register up to 600 people per weekend on a first-come-first-serve basis. Each weekend we have 425 spaces available in cabins, and 175 spaces available for tent camping. You need to get your money in quickly because space is limited, and will fill up fast! The dates for the Camp Rockmont Fall Outing are: August 22-24, September 5-7 and September 12-14. Contact the Program Office for more information.
