Youth & Government
Grades 9 - 12 from Middle Creek High Schools

Visit YMCA NC Youth & Government for details.

Students prepare for moral and political leadership through training in developing public policy. A statewide conference is held in Downtown Raleigh in February 2009. Over 900 High School students throughout the State of North Carolina gathered last year to participate in the Youth & Government Program!

We are also working on establishing clubs at Holly Springs HS and Apex HS in the fall. Please contact us for more information concerning these high schools.

Program Objectives

  • understanding formal and informal government structures
  • participating actively in the legislative process
  • becoming aware of societal issues/problems and their resolutions
  • developing confidence in and dedication to the democratic process
  • gaining communication skills
  • listening to and respecting varying viewpoints
  • learning accountability and respect for others' rights
  • applying moral and ethical valuing processes to public policy making
  • gaining exposure to potential career opportunities
  • gaining understanding of and commitment to the development of statewide and national friednships


When: Meetings held twice a month beginning in September.
