Dr. Leo B. Marsh started the Black Achievers Program in 1971 in Harlem, New York. Today, the program includes all minority groups at YMCA's nationwide.

The YMCA of the Triangle Area Black Achievers has the following objectives:

  • Provide role models who success and knowledge will inspire youth to set and reach their goals
  • Help youth develop a positive sense of self
  • Raise academic perfomance
  • Build character
  • Expose students to diverse career options
  • Recognize and promote excellence
  • Create channels for local businesses to be involved in the community

Registration: Registration is on-going at all Black Achievers Clusters
When: 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month

Fees: $30/teen every year

Students prepare for moral and political leadership through training in developing public policy. A statewide conference is held in Downtown Raleigh in February 2009. Over 900 High School students throughout the State of North Carolina gathered last year to participate in the Youth & Government Program!

We are also working on establishing clubs at Holly Springs HS and Apex HS in the fall. Please contact us for more information concerning these high schools. More...

Junior Leaders Club
Grades 6-8
All meetings are held at the Kraft Family YMCA, unless otherwise noted.

Junior Leaders Club is for teens who are interested in building their leadership skills, gaining valuable teamwork experience, and work in their community through volunteer opportunities. This club is the perfect mix of service and fun to keep all teens engaged while improving themselves in spirit, mind, and body. More...


When: Teens assemble once a week to improve themselves through various spirit, mind and body acitivites.
Fees: Members: $40
Non-Members: $45
