The Kerr preschool at Camp Kanata takes preschool learning outside and back into nature. When preschoolers take a nature walk it’s not on pavement to a playground; it’s a walk where you hear the wind rustle the leaves and ripple the water on the lake. It’s an opportunity for children to learn, touch and discover first-hand the world around them.

YMCA preschool is led by well-trained teachers and teacher assistants who plan and implement educational and fun activities that emphasize social, skill and character development. A morning at preschool may include finding pine cones for an art project or a visit from the local fire department to talk about safety. Preschoolers learn and grow in a safe, nurturing environment.

Curriculum Overview:
• To encourage development of spoken and written language, problem solving skills, listening skills and verbalization of feelings.
• To provide exposure to written language, to encourage name recognition, and to provide opportunities to reproduce a name and print letters.
• To foster the development of proficiency in manipulating small objects, sorting, matching, patterning, counting, sequencing and other math concepts.
• To encourage independence, sharing, interacting with peers, following directions and group participation.

Extended Day Option:
Lunch Bunch extends the preschool one hour each day. For an additional fee, children may participate by bringing a packed lunch from home.

School year is based on Wake County Public Schools Traditional Calendar
