Celebrate Achievement

Four male and one female Black Achievers membersJoin us for the fifth annual YMCA Black Achievers Gala Celebration. The Gala recognizes and rewards YMCA Black Achievers teens and volunteers for their successes and contributions throughout the year.

The Gala Celebration will be held on Thurs., May 22 at the Downtown Durham Marriott from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. with a meet and mingle from 6:30 – 7:00 p.m.

This year is the inaugural year for the Black Achievers Scholarship Fund. The scholarship fund was created to increase the number of scholarships available to the program’s graduating seniors. The 2008 goal is $30,000. To reach this goal, the YMCA Black Achievers is requesting a $10 gift for every person attending the Gala, and all monies will fund future scholarships.

Also this year, Sidney Lowe, head basketball coach for the N.C. State men’s team, will be the keynote speaker, and Miriam Melvin, a WRAL producer, will emcee.

Please contact Talia Duck at talia.duck@ymcatriangle.org for more information or to order your tickets. All ticket orders must be placed by Fri., May 9.

The YMCA Black Achievers program is a national college readiness program designed to help minority teens set and pursue high educational and career goals through academic support, career exploration and mentoring.
