Programs-Youth -Summer Day Camp

Camp Rising Sun
Rising grades K - 8
Cary Family YMCA

Sun, Sun, Rising Sun. Like it, love it, Rising Sun....
Located on-site at the Cary Family YMCA, Camp Rising Sun has offered jam-packed days of excitement to campers for eighteen years. Campers are given opportunities to play, learn new skills, and make new friends. Enthusiastic counselors create an atmosphere of warmth and encouragement.
Keep reading to find out all about the fun activities we have planned at Camp Rising Sun.

World Famous Assemblies
After rides in activities, our official day begins with flag raising at Central Park. Camp directors run assemblies every morning with camp songs, skits, thought for the day, and many other surprises. During this opening assembly, a camper is chosen for the prestigious honor of "Hold the Wall". This special camper is put in charge of holding the wall (which is an integral part of the door) as the entire camp enters the building. The "Hold the Wall" assignment is considered a lifesaver! Huddles rotate adventures in Bond Park throughout the session. While at Bond Park campers fish, play field games, or go on a scavenger hunt. Huddles remaining at the YMCA enjoy ball games, team games, swimming, arts and crafts, devotions, and skill development.

Theme Weeks 2010!

  • June 14 - 18: Amazing Race- What better way to kick off the summer than to challenge our campers to go places they have never gone before? Random food tastings, endurance challenges and relays are just a taste of the all the fun we will be having.
  • June 21 - 25: Ancient Empire - Who can build the greatest empire of all? Huddles will challenge each other throughout camp in a variety of activities in order to build their dynasties. Toga! Toga! Toga!
  • June 28 - July 2: Splish Splash Water Bash - Water week! This week Camp Rising Sun pays it respects to the greatest part of any camper’s summer. Prepare to be soaked.
  • July 6 - 9: Good Eats - Look forward to having fun with food this week. We will learn how to make our own tasty treats and have a great time at our camp cookout.
  • July 12 - 16: Monopoly: Rising Sun Edition - Monopoly is the game and Camp Rising Sun is the place. Huddles will treat the YMCA like a massive monopoly board and work their way around camp earning cash. There can only be one winner!
  • July 19 - 23: Movin’ and Groovin’ - This week you can count on learning new and fun ways to stay healthy. Get ready for the largest dance party in the history of Camp Rising Sun, better yet, the world.
  • July 26 - 30: Camp vs. Wild - Do you love being in the great outdoors? This week will give campers the chance to learn more about what it takes to survive in the wild. We will also learn about the importance of being responsible and protecting our planet.
  • August 2 - 6: Ooey Gooey and Slimey Too - Prepare to get messy! Food fights, homemade gak and pies in the face are just a few examples of the fun we have in store for this week. We also prepare our talents for the Talent Show Family Night!
  • August 9 - 13: RSDC: World Tour - Come along as we explore different countries around the world. We will experience their cultures through challenges, food and our very own Rising Sun Olympics.
  • August 16 - 20: Camp Rewind - Join us as we relive the best memories of Camp Rising Sun 2010. See our favorite skit characters, participate in the best games and celebrate the end of a great summer.
