Lake Crabtree Park
Blazing Trails is a half-day camp located at the Dogwood Shelter at Lake Crabtree County Park. The camp focuses on the environment and the great outdoors. Boating, fishing, hiking, archery, water games, and nature programs by Park Rangers are just a few of the great activites your child will enjoy.
Most of our activities will revolve around these concepts to give children the opportunity to learn about nature, environmental conservation, and the opportunites that the outdoors has to offer. Be sure to pack a water bottle and a lunch each day. The staff of Blazing Trails is looking foward to a fun, safe, and enriching summer with your child.
The Walking Stick The trademark of Camp Blazing Trails is the Walking Stick. The child's name and "BT 12" are wood burned into their own stick and a bead string is attached. The sticks are the most visible part of a Blazing Trails camper, and thus a symbol of pride and accomplishment. It is also one of the many traditions that make Camp Blazing Trails special...probably the biggest. What follows are guidelines for your child's walking stick. Make finding a suitable stick a family affair. The camper will need their stick on the first day of camp.
- The height of the stick should be about your child's height or a little shorter.
- The width should be big enough as to not break too easily, but small enough to be held with one hand.
- The stick should be as straight as possible.
- Try to get a hardwood, such as oak or hickory. Not pine.
- Remove all limbs, knots, and bark from the stick.
If your child returns to camp in the years to follow, they can use the same stick.
