Programs-Youth -Summer Day Camp

Camp Outer Limits
Rising Grades K - 8
West Cary Middle School

Camp Outer Limits is an exciting full-day camp filled with opportunities: active sports, learning new skills, outdoor adventure, crafts, and making new friends. The counselors at Camp Outer Limits create a safe environment while your children enjoy a wide variety of activities. Daily assemblies contain songs, contests, and skits. Each week is packed with excitement ranging from Wacky Wednesday, swimming, archery, a GIANT Slip n' Slide (we call her "Nessie"), and a weekly field trip. In addition to the outstanding activities offered at our home base of West Cary Middle School, each camper will have the opportunity to go on a field trip! Possible field trips include the Natural Science Museum, Lake Crabtree, Bond Park, or a tour of the News & Observer.

Camp Outer Limits is not only a fun place to be this summer, but undoubtedly safe. Each counselor undergoes an extensive interview, reference and background check, and completes 30 hours of staff training prior to the start of the camp season. The YMCA operates summer programs on a 1:10 staff to child ratio. Your child's safety and well being are our top priorities!

Camp Outer Limits is an activity based day camp with themes integrated into daily skits, assemblies, and Wacky Wednesdays. Daily activities include daily swim time, assemblies filled with songs, skits, camper recognition and more, skill development, archery, outdoor, gym and indoor activities, as well as devotion and bead time. The days of Camp "O" are filled with fun activities, new friends, and the biggest Slip N’ Slide ever!

Skill Development!
Clinics are a unique way for children to learn new skills in a variety of activities. Each week campers choose a different skill on which to focus their clinic time. The focus is not 'playing' but learning. For example, during soccer clinic campers will not be playing a game but doing passing drills, discussing team strategy, practicing shooting at the goal, and learning the rules and how-to’s of soccer. It is an intentional time used to help campers develop new skills, refine old skills and help them become more proficient in that specific activity. Possible clinics include soccer, basketball, wrestling, archery, arts and crafts, drama, chess, jump rope, and many more!

Who doesn’t have fun with Wacky Wednesdays?!
Wacky Wednesday happens every Wednesday at Camp Outer Limits! Everyone (counselors, directors, and campers) dresses up in costume according to the theme of the week. Camp is transformed for the day and fun, crazy theme based activities are planned. Get those creative juices flowing - what will YOU wear for Wacky Wednesday this summer at Camp O?

Bead time and Necklaces
One focus of the YMCA is character development. We integrate positive characteristics into day camp with our bead system. All the children will receive a bead necklace and be able to earn beads throughout the summer. The beads vary in color and meaning. They become a great encouragement and incentive to all campers. Make certain to ask your children what their beads mean, and how they earned them! Camp "O" beads include:

  • Red - Caring
  • Blue - Honesty
  • Yellow - Respect
  • Green - Responsibility
  • Purple - Faith in God
  • ChooChoo Train – “I Spun the Wheel” bead
  • HOT pink- “I Rock Camp O” bead
  • Star - Happy Birthday
  • Super Silver - Trade in Four (Red,Blue,Yellow,Green)
  • Glow in the Dark - Family Night
  • Glitter - Wacky Wednesday Winner
