After School at Green Hope Elementary
Grades K - 5 who attend Green Hope
Held at Green Hope Elementary

Green Hope After School is a safe, fun alternative to hanging out at home each afternoon! The program is held at Green Hope Elementary, based out of the Gymnasium. Camper's afternoons are filled with skill development clinics, gym games, huddle challenges, homework possibilities, arts and crafts, and much more! Green Hope hosts Family Nights in the fall and the spring to help encourage the whole family to be involved in the After School program!

Children are able to have fun and learn with counselors who enjoy being around children. A variety of challenging activities are offered including:

  • arts & crafts
  • homework
  • gym games
  • soccer
  • basketball
  • tennis lessons*
  • outdoor & field games
  • skill development clinics (Soccer, Basketball, Checkers, Arts and Crafts)
  • snack time everyday
  • devotions and character development

*Tennis Lessons provided in coordination with the Cary Tennis Center. As a service to you we will transfer your child(ren) to and from tennis lessons during traditional after school hours. Additional Fee.

Skill Development Clinics
Clinics are an instructional time offered 2 days a week. Clinics teach or improve campers skills in certain areas. The focus is not ‘playing’ but learning. For example, during soccer clinic the campers will not be playing a game but doing passing drills, discussing team strategy, and learning how to play soccer. Clinic choices vary from month to month and will be announced in the monthly newsletter. Possible clinics include the following:

  • Soccer
  • Chess
  • Card Games
  • Basketball
  • Yoga
  • Drama

Character Bands and Carabiners!
A main focus of the YMCA is character development; one way it is integrated into after school is through our character band system. All children receive a carabiner (used in rock climbing, but also for those who want to carry keys or character bands). Character bands are passed out by the counselors every day to campers who exemplify one of our four character traits. The character bands vary in color and meaning, and are a great encouragement and incentive to all campers.

  • Red- Caring
  • Blue- Honesty
  • Yellow- Respect
  • Green- Responsibility
