Cary Family YMCA Main Building
Are you a parent looking for a safe after school environment? An environment that challenges your child to learn? Somewhere they can grow in spirit, mind and body? Does your child just want to have fun?
Prime Time After School is the place that can fill all of those needs. Located on-site at the Cary Family YMCA, Prime Time After School offers your child the chance to be active and meet many new friends in a caring and learning environment. Children spend the majority of their day sitting in a classroom; we challenge campers to be as active as possible. With a wide variety of activities, your child will experience an afternoon filled with fun and friendship. Daily activities can include scavenger hunts in our woods, arts and crafts, and active games in our gym known as the “Shark Tank". Additional information about Prime Time After School is just a click away.
Daily Schedule includes the following:
- Skill Development Clinics
- Snack Time
- Devotions and Character Development (thought for the day, stories, etc. on a daily basis)
- Arts & Crafts
- Homework Time (a quiet room to work on homework)
- Gym Games (tag, dodgeball, kickball, etc.)
- Soccer
- Basketball
- Outdoor & Field Games
- Assembly
Skill Development Clinics Clinics are an instructional time offered 2 days a week. Clinics teach or improve campers skills in certain areas. The focus is not ‘playing’ but learning. For example, during soccer clinic the campers will not be playing a game but doing passing drills, discussing team strategy, and learning how to play soccer. Clinic choices vary from month to month and will be announced in the monthly newsletter. Possible clinics include the following:
- soccer
- chess
- arts and crafts
- basketball
- origami
- drama
Homework Time We offer two sessions of homework assitance each day. Your child always has the option to choose to work on school work over any other activity. We offer a quiet area with counselors available to assist campers with any homework problems. An incentive program that rewards campers in homework for having good behavior and working hard is also followed. Since there are two daily activities, your child can choose to spend one activity working on homework and the other being active.
Service Corps Service Corps is an optional program for 4th and 5th graders. This service based program allows campers to volunteer their time during after school. Service points are tracked for each camper. At the end of each month campers who have earned enough service points are rewarded with a field trip, special activity, or a variety of special prizes. Campers can earn service hours by volunteering time doing the following activities:
- assist younger campers with homework during homework time
- assist with front office needs
- safety patrol at Rides Out
- lower and fold the YMCA’s American Flag
Character Bands and Carabiners! A main focus of the YMCA is character development; one way it is integrated into after school is through our character band system. All children receive a carabiner (used in rock climbing, but also for those who want to carry keys or character bands). Character bands are passed out by the counselors every day to campers who exemplify one of our four character traits. The character bands vary in color and meaning, and are a great encouragement and incentive to all campers.
- Red- Caring
- Blue- Honesty
- Yellow- Respect
- Green- Responsibility
- Purple- Faith In God
- Orange- Camper of the day
