Leaders' Club is for teens who are interested in building their leadership skills, gaining valuable teamwork experience, and working in their community through volunteer opportunities. Our weekly meetings are based on growing each individual teen through Spirit, Mind and Body.
Leaders’ Club is a nomination-based service program designed to promote and enhance the personal growth and social skills of young people in order to develop leaders who will be a positive force in their communities. In other words, teens are taught transferrable skills such as: leadership, volunteerism, and creativity. There is an additional focus on providing experiential opportunities as well as developing their spirit, mind, and body through fun activities.
Meetings are held on Monday (Senior) or Tuesday (Junior) nights, typically running from 7:00-8:00pm dependent upon that particular night’s activities. All meetings are built around the spirit, mind, and body aspects that we believe are the foundations of a great leader. Activities range from taking a kickboxing class together to small group discussions on topics such as reasons why teens feel held back from being the best leader they can be.
The true core of this program is based on the entry requirements:
- 1) maintaining a 2.5 weighted GPA
- 2) obtaining 100 service hours with equal focus being given to both the Cary Family YMCA and the community
- 3) attending Monday/Tuesday night meetings throughout the course of the year
- 4) adhering to the Leaders’ Club Constitution, which will be given out at the first meeting.
Maybe you have a passion for service, or you really want to cultivate one, or you even just want something that will look great on a college resume. Regardless of your motivation Leaders’ Club can help meet your needs. While service to the YMCA and the local community is important, we also believe that it is important for every teen to have the opportunity to experience communities outside of their own. Trips are an important part of this club as well, Examples from previous years include a mission trip to Costa Rica or to the Coast of North Carolina. Additionally this club provides an incredible chance for you to meet other teens with similar interests while having fun.
Bottom line, there is something for everyone in Leaders’ Club.
