Alexander Family YMCA-Volunteers-Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering at the Y

We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give. (Winston Churchill)

Volunteering at the Alexander Family YMCA is a wonderful way to give! We have opportunities to volunteer once or many times in our various programs and with our special events.

All volunteers must submit:

Community HOPE Mentor

Downtown East site: Revelation Missionary Baptist Church on East Davie Street
Southeast Raleigh site (NEW!): Macedonia New Life Church on Rock Quarry Road

Just one hour a week. That's all it takes to make a difference in a child's life.

Community HOPE isn't just a tutoring program. It's a relationship--a bond between mentor and child. Through this academically structured mentoring program, students can gain more than one grade level of literacy each year. In addition, these children develop confidence and an expanded vision for the future. Your time, attention and guidance could change a child's life forever.

See how you can get involved! More...

Y Learning Tutor
Combs, Hunter, Stough, and Wiley Elementary schools
St. Augustine's College - serving middle school students

Y Learning, our afterschool tutoring program, provides a safe, encouraging environment for at-risk students to learn. Through creative activities and guided homework sessions, help a child develop the skills they need to succeed in school and ultimately to succeed in life.

Tutors meet with students during after school hours (3:00 - 6:00 p.m.) on a pre-determined schedule. Volunteers usually work one-on-one or in very small groups with children to improve basic math and reading skills while building an encouraging relationship with the student.
