Volunteers

The Alexander Family YMCA can always use more helping hands. We have volunteer opportunities with our youth, teens and outreach programs. Alexander Y volunteers are active in our community, love people and love to lend a helping hand. We have volunteer opportunities that can fit any interest and time budget.

There are so many meaningful and significant ways to give back to the community through the Alexander YMCA. We hope you'll look into our volunteer opportunities, and discover how rewarding this experience can be!

Community HOPE MentorCommunity HOPE is an academically structured mentoring and literacy program that addresses the individual learning needs of students living in affordable housing communities here in Raleigh. They rely heavily on volunteers. Each week, the Alexander YMCA needs more than 70 mentors to make this program a success.

Volunteers are needed Monday through Thursday from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. or from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. during the school year to help with literacy development. Each student is paired with 2 adult advocates of mentors who strongly support the student for an entire school year and often longer.

We are looking for volunteers who can commit just one hour per week for one academic school year or who can volunteer as a substitute mentor when needed.
