Our Mission:
To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

Youth

At the YMCA we don’t just watch your children play. We actively engage them in fun programs, physical recreation and activities that emphasize character development and Christian values. We build relationships with them and encourage them to build relationships with each other. Through our youth programs children learn to be honest, responsible, to respect and care for one another.

Who leads YMCA Youth Programs? Our programs are lead by a responsible and energetic staff of adults, college and high school students. Each staff member is carefully selected through a comprehensive application and interview process - under the direction of full time YMCA professionals. Staff are fully trained with an emphasis on YMCA priorities such as being an exemplary role model, building camper self-esteem, creativity, safety, fun and YMCA spirit - our programs are effective because of the quality of our staff!

What is the YMCA's Program Philosophy? Each camper is placed into a "huddle group" according to his/her age and grade. Counselors lead campers in challenging, age-appropriate activities providing fun-filled opportunities for campers to develop physically, mentally, socially and spiritually. No matter what your child's age or time of year - we have a YMCA youth program for your child!

How does YMCA Transportation work? We are always on the move doing something fun at the YMCA - picking up campers for after school, going swimming at summer camp, taking field trips, visiting local parks, museums and more! This means that campers may ride a YMCA bus from time to time (this will vary depending on the program you choose). While on a YMCA bus, your child's safety is our first and foremost concern. All of our bus drivers have their commercial driver's license from the State of North Carolina. Our bus drivers undergo the same screening, background checks and training that each YMCA counselor undergoes and completes additional YMCA Transportation training!

Our youth programs are offered for children in grades K – 5 that attend the following schools:

  • Combs
  • Hodge Road
  • Hunter
  • Lacy
  • Stough
  • Underwood
  • Washington
  • Wiley
