Y-Learning is an after school tutorial program serving at-risk students in third-eighth grade that is housed right in Wake County public schools.
The program operates four afternoons per week during the after school hours. The program pairs YMCA staff with Wake County teachers to provide homework assistance, skills practice and End of Grade test preparation. Volunteers provide extra assistance to students in our Y-Learning programs.
Training required: Each volunteer will need to meet with our Outreach Director prior to volunteering in a Y-Learning program. He/she will also need to complete an application, go through a background check, and complete a 45-minute online training on child abuse prevention.
Schedule: Volunteers for Y-Learning should be available to spend one hour at a program once a week. The hour and the day of week are flexible week to week. For example, a volunteer could meet at 4:00 on a Monday one week and 3:00 on a Wednesday the following week.
